Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Ms. Tinius came to the arts in a round-about way after her ikebana teacher required her to draw her floral creations. After years of classes in various arts in the U.S., Japan and Europe, Ms. Tinius is now based in Hawaii where she teaches ikebana. Painting primarily in soft pastel, her works often reflect her floral background with plants and vases often appearing as subjects in floral and still life paintings. Ms. Tinius is a member of the Pastel Artists of Hawaii, Windward Artists Guild, and the Association of Hawaiian Artists and has exhibited her paintings in Hawaii and Germany.
In all of my artistic pursuits, I strive to capture some of the beauty that surrounds us, making us pause to appreciate some overlooked aspect or see things in a new way. The subject is often something that just happened to catch my eye, although it often involves plants and vases, reflecting my background in the floral art of ikebana. Lately, I’ve been working to expand into more landscape paintings and often find myself drawn to the unique forms of individual tree trunks and roots.
