DEXTER DOI

Born and raised in Hawaii, Doi was drawing and painting at a very early age.  Doi went on to attend the University of Hawaii and the historic Art Student s League Art School in New York City. Returning to Hawaii in 1987, Doi resumed a successful commercial art career working as a freelance artist and eventually senior artist at Tori Richard.   In 1995, Doi started having collaborative exhibitions with his wife, Carol D Angelo that continue until today. Doi s work is in the State Foundation Collection, The Honolulu Museum of Art and can also be found in various private and corporate collections.

In 2008, Doi and his wife started Ecolicious, an apparel and accessory line. They are currently in process of rebranding their business as Doi and D[1]ÂȘAngelo, to include their fine artwork with their product line.

Statement:

My art has always been invested with imagery. This series called  Dreams  uses figurative  imagery fused with abstract forms that coexist within the same space. This surrealist approach provided me with a language that would allow for a broad interpretation of our current anxiety and hopes.
