LINDA UMSTEAD

Linda Umstead comes to painting and illustration with a designer’s eye. She enjoys exploring many art mediums and finds watercolor particularly exciting. She moved to Hawaii from Southern California in 2002, continuing a long career in advertising. Her biggest project was the design of the hull graphics for the NCL ship Pride of Aloha. She also hosts an annual art exhibition dedicated to Ho’omaluhia Gardens.

Linda excels at watercolor botanicals, the subjects of an annual wall calendar which she retails locally. Watercolor is also the medium for her ongoing natural landscapes, one of which, “Mists of Puna,” appeared on the cover of the Hawaii Bar Journal in October 2020. Her paintings of local birds is a series titled ‘Birds of Paradise.’ A visionary work in progress titled “Rising Seas,”  featuring Honolulu landmarks in 2120, can be seen on Facebook @HonoluluLandmarks2120.

Education: BFA, University of Arizona; studied at UCLA, Art Center College of Design, California State University Long Beach.

Memberships: Hawaii Watercolor Society (past board member), Association of Hawaii Artists (President 2016-2019).
